We have undertaken the following initiatives
Designed a theatre intervention focused upon a girls after-school homework assistance support project. This intervention employs the use of applied drama/theatre as a tool for young womyn to find their voice, improve their self esteem, influence behavior and bring about social change
Healing and personal growth. This approach helps us create safe spaces using Storytelling Dance, Poetry, and Theatre Exercises with the aid of Visual Arts in strengthening the ability to resist. Our focus particularly emphasises the Theatre of the Oppressed. which is a tool used to promote self expression, raising of consciousness, personal development and collective empowerment, adopted from UNESCO-CCIVS 2006:7. The Theatre of the Oppressed was developed by theatre practitioner and social activist Augusto Boal. Boal is a Brazilian scholar who was greatly influenced by Paulo Freire, an educationalist who developed the pedagogy of the oppressed. The work of these scholars speaks to ways through which the oppressed need to be given an opportunity to find solutions to their own situations.
